The study of global issues and the interdependence of states, economies, societies, cultures, and peoples. With the world growing more connected, it’s important to have a deep understanding of how different countries and cultures interact. With a degree in global affairs, you’ll be ready to work on the most pressing challenges of our time—in government, nonprofits, or internationally-focused businesses and organizations.

As a graduate of the program, you’ll be able to analyze and respond to complex problems that span the globe—including globalization, peacebuilding, sustainability, international law, global finance, resource security, and gender studies. You’ll be ready to tackle the challenges of global leadership and effective citizenship in a participatory democracy, and you’ll be prepared to build relationships across borders and cultures to create solutions.

To complete the major in global affairs, you’ll take a wide variety of courses that bring together knowledge from many disciplines, including political science, history, economics, sociology, and geography. You’ll also develop a strong base of quantitative skills by taking two advanced classes in either GLBL 3101 or GLBL 4500, and you’ll be required to fulfill the language requirement through a course designated L4 in a modern language other than English. Courses taken on an exchange or in a summer or term-time program may count toward the major requirements with DUS approval.
